A look at the specialized role of a real estate professional trained to navigate property-related issues that can arise during divorce.
A Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert (CDRE) is a real estate professional who has completed specialized training focused on the complexities of real estate during divorce. A CDRE remains a real estate professional—not an attorney, judge, or appraiser.
Divorce-related property decisions can involve court orders, competing priorities, financial questions, occupancy arrangements, and heightened communication needs. Specialized preparation helps a CDRE recognize those issues and work within an appropriate professional scope.
A traditional home sale usually involves owners working toward a shared objective. During divorce, the parties may disagree about timing, access, improvements, pricing, or whether to sell at all. A CDRE's training emphasizes professionalism, neutrality where required, and clear communication rather than taking sides.
Hiring a CDRE does not guarantee an outcome, eliminate disputes, or replace legal advice. The right scope of work should be determined with the parties and their legal counsel.
